Faith Tinio-Jocson

Ate Faith is the elder sister of Ergoe, my first bride.

She was very easy to work with because she knew exactly what she wanted. She sent several photos of makeup looks she liked, and when we had her trial makeup, I knew exactly how to do her face. Her pegs were mostly neutral makeup with emphasis on the eyes.

I realized three things during this wedding:

1) I really enjoy doing the makeup of mothers. I think I have a gift for doing mature makeup. I started out by regularly doing my mom's makeup for her events, after all. The mothers need to look as good as the bride since the guests' eyes will also be on them.

2) Nothing beats having the groom say that he loved his bride's makeup. This Facebook comment had me giddy for days.

3) I should request the photographers to take beauty shots that show the bride's makeup. I should also invest in a decent camera so I can take nice pictures myself (my current digicam is not suitable for taking makeup pictures, any kind of foundation registers badly).

I am truly grateful to the Tinio sisters for the trust they put in me and Aiyms to do their hair and makeup for their respective weddings. Having them get me to do their makeup gave me the confidence I need as someone who is just starting out in this industry.

I can't wait to do more of this in the future and, in God's perfect time, actually earn and make a living from it.

Ergoe Tinio-Rafael

Ergoe and I met on our first day of college and she has become my kabarkada and one of my best friends in the entire universe since then. It was such an honor for me to do her makeup for her wedding to Nanoy.

Ergoe was far from your usual bride. She was the coolest, most laid-back, chillax bride I have ever encountered. She got her above-the-knee dress at SM Department Store six days before her wedding--for only P800. She and her groom wore matching Converse Dr. Seuss hi-tops. She sported black nail polish on her fingers, and they exchanged black titanium rings. This bride definitely did not call for the usual bridal look.

I wanted to do dark eyes and red lips for a totally rockin' look to match her black nails and shoes, but Ergoe was lipstick-averse. She wanted her lips to be as light as possible. I did a smokey eye with thick falsies (another request of hers) with pale lips instead. She was happy with the final outcome.

Another friend of ours, Imee, did her hair. Her bridal look--like their entire wedding--was a true labor of love.

Dea, Ergoe, Imee
I'm so glad to have gotten to do this for her on her wedding day. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect first bride to jumpstart my makeup career.

Thank you for trusting me to do your makeup on your big day, Goe. I wish you and Nanoy all the best.
